For most homeowners, kitchen floors are one of the most difficult hard surfaces to maintain. This is because they're constantly exposed to high foot traffic and a myriad of harmful external agents. While it's true there are many ways to preserve the appearance of your kitchen floor, there will come a time when professional maintenance is needed to get it back in shape.

Kitchen Floor Before and After a Grout Cleaning Service in Royersford, PA
A Royersford resident recently contacted us because she wanted to renew the appearance of her 18-year-old kitchen floor. The floor's tiles were in fantastic shape, but the grout lines were dirty and discolored. Since none of her cleaning attempts did anything to improve the state of the floor, she decided it was best to look for professional help. She went online and searched for grout cleaning in Royersford, PA. She found our website in the top search results. After browsing the Before and After picture gallery depicting jobs we had previously carried out, she filled out the form to request a free evaluation and a quote.

On the day of the consultation, we visited the client's home to assess the floor. She quickly started telling us about the problems she had been facing. The floor's grout was dirty and seemed impossible to clean. No matter how hard she tried cleaning the surface, she couldn't remedy the damage the floor had suffered over time. In her desperation, the homeowner tried cleaning the grout using homemade acidic recipes that had been recommended to her.

Unfortunately, this practice had the opposite effect to what she was expecting. Not only did it fail to clean the grout, it also progressively deteriorated the fixtures and gave them a grayish tone. Acidic cleaners should only be used in certain cases. When used regularly, these acid-based cleaning solutions can damage tile and grout beyond repair. For regular cleaning, it's best to use a pH-neutral cleaner.

Even though our client's attempts at cleaning the kitchen floor had made matters worse, it wasn't anything we couldn't solve. We assured her we could restore the floor's grout lines and ensure they remained in top condition with a grout cleaning and sealing procedure. The homeowner agreed to the service and set up an appointment for the job.

We went back to the customer's home a few days later to perform the service. We started by applying a non-toxic pH-neutral tile and grout cleaner to the floor. This cleaner also contains ingredients that can help inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms, making it the ideal cleaning solution for kitchen areas. We let the cleaner sit for a few minutes to facilitate the removal of the grime. Next, we used a high-speed scrubber to clean the surface. We paid special attention to the grout lines to ensure they were perfectly cleaned. When we finished cleaning, we re-grouted a section of the floor where the fixtures had cracked.

After we made sure the grout was in good shape, we began the sealing procedure. To do this, we coated the floor with our proprietary sealant, Tile Armor. On top of enhancing the appearance of the tiles, this sealant protects tile and grout against spills, water, stains, mold, and mildew.

When we finished, the floor looked as good as new. The once worn out grout lines now had a color that matched the appearance of the tiles. The client was thrilled. Her floor now looked just as clean as it did 18 years ago. She thanked us for a job well done and said she would recommend our services to her friends and family. She even took the time to left a review on Facebook:

Awesome job. Looks like it did when we moved in 18 years ago.

Prior to leaving, we gave the customer a few care tips to ensure the floor remained in top condition. First, we recommended cleaning the floor once a week using a pH-neutral cleaner like Sir Grout's Natural Hard Surface Cleaner. Staying away from homemade recipes and abrasive cleaners is key to preserving the floor in its current state. We also suggested wiping away spills as soon as they happened. Certain foods contain substances that can eat away at the grout lines, so it's best to keep the area clean.
